A CLOSER LOOK, HIP-HOP ARTIST, 83 SHORDY


You may have seen this next artist featured on DJ Squirrel Wyde’s “The Hooligan Express”- With his authentic sound and incredible lyricism, he’s destined for greatness. DMV AUX presents to you, 83 Shordy!


83 Shordy spent most of his life in West Baltimore, Maryland, but relocated to the Northeast side at the age of 14. Originally, 83 had no desire to pursue music, but his peers, who are also rappers, convinced him to step in the game!


That day in 2018, 83 made a deal, stating “I’m going to give you five songs, and after that don’t ask me no more.” Shortly after, he released his well-received debut single [83 Shordy], and jump-started his career.


The majority of 83’s songs are based on his everyday life and written for himself. “I make songs for me, I like to see myself on video or just to hear my voice,” he stated. Initially, he would browse YouTube for beats, but 83 now has a designated producer, Moneymanbeats.


As for his creative process, 83 prefers to listen to beats with friends, and try their hands together with different sounds. Although he isn’t inspired by anyone, 83 listens to Baltimore rappers such as G Rock, SMG Dezz, and Lor Scoota, due to their longevity and versatile themes in music.

In the future, 83 hopes his rap career takes off and wishes to live comfortably. Apart from music, he has goals to start a clothing line and his own trucking company. Additionally, you might catch 83 in films, as he wishes to venture off into acting as well!


When it comes to advice for aspiring artists, 83 stated, “If you really wanna rap, you have to be dedicated and find your style." 83 also stresses the importance of networking and building relationships, “You can't sit back in silence, expecting someone to do something for you, it doesn’t work like that," he concluded.

There's nothing else to do, except make money. You could chill, but it’s best to be productive and to seek other investments.


What’s one of your biggest pet peeves?


I hate people who talk unnecessarily loud.


Would you rather Win $50,000 or let your best friend win $500,000?


I’m probably going to let my best friend take $500,000, he’d have to split it with me though!


What’s something you would tell your younger self?


I would tell my younger self to save that money! You are going to need it when you get older.


Magnified topic of the week: 83Shordy Ft Fat Fool - On Me | Directed By LoveTheCulture


83 Shordy teamed up with fellow Baltimore rapper, Fat Fool on the single “On Me.” Initially, this was a solo song, however, 83 had a free verse on the track and Fat Fool instantly approved of the beat and decided to hop on.


In this single, 83 decided to take a director’s approach when it came to the video treatment, the moment he heard the single and he envisioned a real-life scenario. This song centers around being in a love triangle and his involvement with a woman who is already taken. Throughout the music video, we see 83 and the woman’s boyfriend has several exchanges.
